The monument to King Alfonso XII is a sculpture located on the east side of the pond, near the center of Retiro Park. The monument, financed by public subscription, was inaugurated on June 6, 1922.

The equestrian statue of Alfonso XI is made of bronze and is known to be one of the tallest and tallest structures within the park. In the middle of the last century, the structure was neglected and fell into disrepair. It was in the 80s when the restorations were done. Several nearby statues and figures also had to be replaced as part of the restoration.
